Are you planning a holiday or wanting to discover things to do in Miles? Well, you have come to the right place!
Originally named Dogwood Crossing, Miles was established on a track blazed by the explorer, Ludwig Leichardt, in 1884. Located at the junction of the Warrego Way and Leichhardt Way, Miles is a vibrant rural township, renowned for its “living” pioneering history, bottle trees and beautiful spring flowers.
This historical village will literally have you stepping back into history with many turn-of-the-century buildings, including a bank, post office, general store, bakery, chemist, barber, hospital and butchery, housing remarkable collections and bringing a bygone age to life.
Mingle with the locals at the Miles Picnic Races every February, or join in the Beef, Bells and Bottle Tree Festival fun and celebrations in September, coinciding with the beginning of the wildflower season.
Miles is the centre of the native wildflower region, extending North into the Great Divide. The region has diversified primary production and successful mining of Bentonite Clay. The beautiful Balonne River is a highlight of the town, displaying its magnificent beauty, particularly when the wildflowers are in full bloom. Enjoy the tranquility of Chinaman’s Lagoon whilst you are visiting too, with a spectacular array of Australian native waterlillies.
There are just so many things to do in Miles, you should try and stop in the next time you’re travelling past.
