The region around Julia Creek has traditionally been utilised for sheep and cattle grazing using the Great Artesian Basin to sustain primary productions and the town water supplies. The town’s distinctive wine glass shaped water tower acts to cool the artesian water and at 30 metres tall, assists with water pressure. It is a magnificent sight to see! Experience the therapeutic benefits of the artesian baths whilst enjoying the uninterrupted views of vast open plains.
Julia Creek is home to an endangered nocturnal marsupial, the Dunnart (Sminthopsis douglasi), which is an extremely shy nocturnal hunter found on the Mitchell grass downs. You can experience an up-close and personal encounter with ‘Donald’ and ‘Duncan’ during their daily feeding at the Julia Creek Visitor’s Centre.

A tribute to the spirit of the ANZAC’s, the statue features objects found around the town.
