Longreach Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame And Outback Heritage Centre

Located in the heart of Queensland’s central western region, is the town of Longreach, home to the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre. The museum pays homage to pioneers of the Australian outback; some of Australia’s greatest explorers, stock workers, pastoralist and Indigenous peoples. It’s a must-see if you’re travelling in the area!

Where is Longreach?

The outback town of Longreach, Australia, which gained its name after its positioning on the ‘long reach’ of the Thomson River, can be found 700km west from Rockhampton, and approximately 650km south east from Mt Isa.
The friendly outback town makes for an excellent holiday destination or stopping point on your Queensland road trip. You’ll find natural beauty as well as fascinating tourist attractions in this friendly town, where you can experience life in the Aussie outback and learn about the region’s important role in Australian history.
The Qantas Founders Museum offers an interactive history of Australia’s most successful airline. Or, for natural wonder, don’t miss a sunset in this dusty rural town!

Stockman’s Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre

One of the key attractions of Longreach is the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame.  You can easily spend hours, if not the whole day at the Hall – one of Australia’s most popular tourist attractions.

“This is a beautiful display and tribute to the Aussie bush and the the role of the Australian stockman in the history of the Australia's development.” MattE217, Trip Advisor

The building itself is a timber stone and corrugated iron structure, with five themed galleries that proudly display the history and different cultures of Aussie stockmen and women. Admire the trials and hardship of Australia’s pioneers, enjoy lunch in the centre’s cafe, wander around the book shop, and watch the infamous live show – complete with (well cared for) Aussie animals.

“The live show was fantastic. The animal trainers were absolutely brilliant especially cleaning of the horse hooves.” John G, Trip Advisor

You will leave the Stockman’s Hall of Fame with far greater knowledge about the hardships of life in the outback and early rural history, which has inevitably shaped the Australia we know today.
