Moonie

Visit the oil capital of Queensland at Moonie!  Australia’s first commercial oil field was established here in 1961 and still operates today.

The community love horseracing and a highlight of the year is the Yabbie Races.  As the ‘race that stops the Outback’, the Moonie Yabbie Races are a one-of-a-kind, quirky country event run annually in November.  It’s fast paced, action packed with fashions on the field, food and live entertainment making it the best day out all year!

Grab your picnic basket and relax at the Rural Transaction Centre, or browse the local arts and crafts.  Then take a walk on the Heritage Trail for an amazing experience.  Don’t miss the brilliant murals depicting the history of the town and a giant cod caught in local waters on display at Moonie Crossroads.
