Originally named Dogwood Crossing, Miles was established on a track blazed by the explorer Ludwig Leichardt in 1884.  This historical village will literally have you stepping back into history with many turn-of-the-century buildings including a hospital, café, bank, post office and bakery.

Miles is the centre of the native wildflower region extending North into the Great Divide.  The region has diversified primary production and successful mining of Bentonite Clay.  The beautiful Balonne River is a highlight of the town displaying its magnificent beauty particularly in September when the wildflowers are blooming!
